NFL Odds: Chiefs-Niners in Super Bowl LIV Rematch

The San Francisco 49ers still haven’t gotten over their heart-breaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIV. They’ll get their first chance at revenge this Saturday, albeit during preseason action. The Niners will host Kansas City at 8:30 PM ET, with San Francisco favored by 2.5 points and the total opening at 36.5.

It remains to be seen at press time how the Niners will divide up the quarterback duties for this exhibition game. However, they have an interesting battle brewing between incumbent starter Jimmy Garoppolo and this year’s No. 3 overall pick, Trey Lance. Josh Rosen, the No. 10 pick in 2018, is third on the depth chart and enjoyed a promising start to training camp, but has tailed off recently. Nate Sudfeld is also in the mix for Saturday.

Kansas City’s plans under head coach Andy Reid aren’t quite as mysterious. Reid told reporters he’ll be sticking with his usual preseason approach, limiting his first-stringers to one or two series. That would presumably include QB Patrick Mahomes, who started the 2019 exhibition opener. Veteran Chad Henne returns as Mahomes’ back-up, followed by rookies Anthony Gordon and Shane Buechele on the depth chart.
